Internship?!
Apr. 7th, 2005 02:18 pmMany things happened today...like what?
I woke up for class and felt like shite. I hit my snooze button, crawled back under the covers, and proceeded to have Disturbing Dreams (DD) which is fairly normal for me. I've hit a period of time where I wasn't waking up remembering them and just knowing that I slept badly because of bad dreams, but that changed. For generalishness and squeamish stomachs there were decapitations, the removal of limbs with realistic blood, and screaming.
Then I get woken up by the phone. I'd submitted my resume to BAH (Booz-Allen Hamilton, a very big-name company for consultations and IT things) at the insistence of a family friend who works there and had spoken about me and my skills at length; I get a call from his wife (another family friend, we like their family) that she'd already heard there was official Interest in me and I should have either gotten or expect a call soonish. Something along those lines, actually. When I related the news to Mother Dearest, the first thing she "assures" me of is that if I get an internship, they'd gladly 'take care of' rescheduling my trip to the UK and all those detail things. I can see the logic and reasoning for the future goal I have of getting a real job: an internship at BAH is rare, the field I work in even rarer, and the fact that I am so young and still getting good things said about me *very* rare. If I get this internship, I could have a guranteed job for a good company, a good working environment, and a chance at doing something that makes me happy. On the other hand, if I get this internship, it runs the very high risk of taking away any chance I have at going to England this summer; you can't just up and leave for fun in the middle of a brand new job, especially not when you'd have been working there for under 90 days.
Yes, this is a big thing. To even hear a rumor of possible interest means there is a very real chance of interest - the friend of the family I know inside the company is very highly respected and has spoken about me in nothing but shining, positive tones. BAH rarely looks for people with my graphical skills, and a combination of hands-on IT administration can't possibly hurt my chances. I want a career that I can love, I want a job that can make me happy, but I want my other things as well.
Skipping over wangst about summer, I'd submitted a report of harassment to DA - I'd followed a deviant who went from account to account to account after being banned (ban evasion can wind up getting your entire IP block and possibly your friends banned) and stumbled onto a new account of theirs which hadn't been caught yet. I reported them and lo and behold, I got a *reply* from the team letting me know that because of my report, they were bumping up a previous ticket concerning the user to high priority and sending it along to the Policy Violations Team ASAP. I *did* something on DA and it got noticed by the right people and it helped...that feels rather good, actually.
Concerning the contest - it's not over yet. Voting goes until the 11th and is open to any member of the DA community. On the other hand, the club has formally changed their rules after a discussion I and the administration of the club had. Also, I'm 12 votes in the lead for winning. o0 Rather unexpected and so pleased. I took the pleased-happiness and made it into a new piece of art featuring me as a Quidditch player.
I'll add more things later - off to class, now. :3
