What's This? (State of Jate, July 24)

I realized that I tend to have more "State of Jate" posts at my DA journal and that is rather insane. I've got a journal over here, a massive amount of people I could keep in touch with, and a massive amount of people I need to remind I haven't fallen off the face of the planet or died. (Which would just, let's put this out there, suck.) I'm going to be posting my State of Jate to both but the DA one will prolly be more art related and less life for now, at least until I get back in the habit of writing. :3
A short-cap? I love my job, I'm accepting my geeky side of myself, my art is actually seeming to go somewhere, and life is (for the most part) doing well. Details of said life are going to go under the LJ cut because I remember basic nice rules of the internets. :3 Life, art, LJ - under the cut, you know the drill.
I still look back on that Wednesday I got the job offer and just - I can't imagine it could really get any better. I really do find that I love my job, for one. Sure there are the annoying customers but really any job has those - I at least get the added benefit of working with folks who I enjoy being around. We crack jokes about Vista, we discuss politics or world events, we have talks through cubicle walls, we share jokes. It's a great place. While there might be problem children, for every downside is countered by the sheer fact that the folks I work with and around make anything awesome.
For the curious, I work for MAXIMUS - a company which helps governments do health services work and helps schools monitor a lot of systems and access and the like. In specific I do tech support - a mix of software and hardware support mostly over the phones. I do some odd hands-on stuff, floor calls, random things with Active Directory, and have developed a company-learned disgust of Outlook. :3 I've spent hours on the phone with HP, growled loudly about it, and then bonked my head against the desk. The only compalints I have to admit to having at work are the firewalls. ;~; The Tower, SSC, my domain, OotS - nuuuuuu! But frankly that's a really small price to pay for having a job I really do love. I can get my XKCD fix at home as long as I have the job I love doing.
I really need to get a different LJ layout, something more creative - I've got access to, well, everything on LJ and I barely use half the power. *mentally gives self a kick* I might have to design some custom artwork and look into some floating CSS and brush up on my web coding since it's been half of forever. Or maybe
thescarletwoman will help me out? :o) I've only had this layout for... how many years? At least two I think. I changed it when I got Vanyel, my computer, and he's... not *old* per-say but certainly on in years. Still a lovely stable system though - I should set him up this weekend...
It's actually really *odd* remembering how to do LJ cuts and link people's usernames and everything - it's been forever and a day since I used the text editor to post my LJ entries (Semagic all the way!) and it's... it's nice. Freeing. Amusing? I'm behind on my LJ codes? GASP!
In my quest to improve my artwork I've begun to mimic the styles of Weregeek, Erfworld, and currently working on Marvel comics. I'm going to try working on Gunnerkrigg Court, Girls with Slingshots, and Questionable Content next! I really like working and learning how to draw in someone else's style, it's a refreshing break. In fact I'm even trying to adapt Weregeek's look into something more of a fusion and see about integrating the ability to do different body types (fat, skinny, broad, rail thin) into my own main art. The next project after that is going to be single and double vanishing horizon work. Which will be fun - translation: BACKGROUNDS! I know, the world? Ending.
It's been a blast the past two weeks - I can't think of how many random things I've just done. I sat and read books one night, I rolled a warlock named Bookj the next. (Sadly the name Book is already taken on Lothar but I do have a reservation on Booksmythe as well as re-rolling a DK on Alliance side there. I've been really enjoying my Alliance toons a lot but more on them will prolly go up in another journal. I realized how much I missed a warlock though so I rolled one on the Alliance side. :3 In honor of my Champions toon... I'm actually thinking of giving another toon the axe and rolling a priest named Sila. (giggle if you know why, go for it)
G-Street was horridly disappointing last night. ;~; Not only did it NOT have the pattern I wanted but they also didn't have the right fabric. I might have to find a specialty place to get metallic Lycra now. :/ Not a happy Jate. On the other hand everything I've been reading since last night indicates that as long as I follow the pattern and sew smoothly I shouldn't have a problem making it exactly as I want it to turn out. We'll conquer the bodysuit first then the boots can be conquered with careful application of the same pattern. *g* I like having a plan. With time this shouldn't be a problem making the D*Con deadline. And honestly if I can do this there is NOTHING I can't make. Once the bodysuit gets done I'll do the bodice.
My serger and I are back on speaking terms, happily! It is going to involve some new needles but that's a small price to pay. I and my sewing machines are going to be doing lots of little projects - curtains, pillows, shirts. I'm likely going to pick up a roll of pattern piece paper and use that instead of art paper like I did for Richard and slowly but surely I am going to start designing and making my own clothes. Pants and shirts will be mastered. I will make things, I will keep my costuming skills current, and I will make gorgeous things. I'm expecting my life to return to normal in a few weeks.
As for my folks, since a State of Jate invariably has to include them, Mum's got an appointment with the doctor today because for a week she's had no voice. That's not a good thing since the last time that was from a tumor. Dad has surgery next week to remove a benign tumor from his neck. His diabetes is under control through just diet and exercise which is good because otherwise it'd be needles. :/
So there it is, a State of Jate. I'm going to need to get a new mood thingy, too... *plots*
